Brief history of British Shorthairs 

The British Shorthair came from England and became established as a prominent cat breed during the Victorian era, which was when cat shows became increasingly popular. Because of their popularity, the British Shorthair became a pedigreed breed and were the only pedigreed breed allowed in cat shows during that time. 

 

Characteristics 

 As per the name of this breed, British Shorthairs have short and thick fur coats that come in various beautiful colours, most remarkably the British Blue, which was the breed's original name. This breed is medium-sized to large and are heavily muscular and heavily boned. They also have round heads, cheeks, eyes, and bodies, which makes them as cuddly as a teddy bear. They have strong legs and thick tails, which make them capable of taking care of pests in the house. 

 

General care guide 

 Because of their thick, muscular stature, it is easy for them to become overweight. Their diet and nutrition must be carefully controlled to ensure they maintain their optimum weight. British Shorthairs need regular exercise to stay fit, and they can play well on their own as long as they have their cat toys. Weekly brushing is recommended to remove dead hairs and dirt from their coat. Other general health, nutritional, and dental care applies.
